About hope theatreOur Historyhope theatre, inc. is a 401 C-3 non-profit theatre, founded in 2000 by The McAllister siblings: Jerry, Heather, and Kelly. The company's first production was the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway (Bank Street Theatre) production of EDWARD III, directed by Heather & Kelly, which made theatre history by being the American professional premiere of this lost history now attributed to Shakespeare. Their second production was Kelly McAllister's LAST CALL, directed by Jerry McAllister. It was part of The New York International Fringe Festival 2002, was named a "Fringe Pick" by nytheatre.com, and had to add performances due to popular demand. Last Call went on to win the Excellence in Playwriting award from the Fringe, was published in The New York Theatre Experience's Plays and Playwrights 2003", and was given a staged reading by The 13th Street Rep and by the Drama Bookshop. A Few Words from the Artistic Directorok, here’s our story: we are 3 siblings, raised in California by an educator mother and a writer/adventurer father. like many young aspiring actors, we moved to new york and worked steadily in the theatrical world. then we started our own theatre company: hope theatre. our goal:
to create a theatrical style that explores and celebrates theatricality,
those magical elements that make theatre a unique, vital and living
aspect of the arts:
to create a place for artists to play together, making up our own version of the world, making a place where imagination is honored, and cynicism is never allowed to win. that’s what hope theatre is all about. hope theatre focuses on fresh approaches to the classics and on developing new works. hope theatre is dedicated to giving emerging playwrights, directors, designers and actors the opportunity to communicate their vision in an exciting, nurturing environment. with your help, that’s exactly what we want to continue to do. heather mcAllister - artistic director hope theatre ps: i grew up playing made up games with my two brothers. our mascots were doggy and pokie, a stuffed dog and polar bear. they received so much love, and as actors, let me tell you, they worked all the time! hope you’ll join us, and become our new doggy and pokie. come out and play. | |
